Wooden Boat Festival

Took the time to attend the wooden boat festival in Port Townsend. The bands were great and we had sunshine, fog, and some rain.

Went sailing on Friday in the under 26 foot class on a 25 foot boat that was built there at the wooden boat school. Saturday went sailing on a schooner, and met and networked with Schooner people here in the PNW.

Thursday I walked down to the boat haven boat yard. Grail was still there on the hard, looks like she is drying out. Hopefully some one will save her, she is such a cool boat.

Also saw the Hawaiian Cheiftan, and Lady Washington.

Passed out lots of cards, made new friends, and saw lots of old friends.

Got my new credential from the National Maritime Center

Received my new credential from the National Maritime Center. My credential expired on Sunday August 24th, so quite relieved that this showed up a few days after it expired.

Was only able to do a “renew” of my 200 ton inland, need more sea time on 100 GRT vessels.

The new credential is on 8.5″ x 11″ printed paper. Would like to laminate it, but says it will invalidate the credential. The didn’t send me the sleeve for storing it so I guess will just fold it up and put it in my old credentials that holds my TWIC and medical card.

Chief mate on a schooner

I had the privilege of being a chief mate on the schooner for 6 weeks. We did week long trips along the Maine coast with 13 to 16 year old teenagers.

Most of the weeks we toured the Maine Maritime Academy. Such a great opportunity for these students.

I hope to do more schooner sailing over the next few years.

Maybe this winter in the Caribbean.
