I pride myself on self learning.  Back in 2015, I was approached by a boat owner at Portland Yacht Club.

He had only been sailing for a few years, and purchased a valiant 50 out of san diego.  He said that he heard I was getting my captains license, and wanted to hire me to bring her up the coast and then train him so that his insurance would let him take the boat out.

So I finished the online classes at mariners learning system for my six pac.  We submitted it with a quick resume to his insurance company and I was immediately approved to be the hired as the captain.  This was really the start of my delivery business.

It took two weeks to get the boat up the coast, and everyone had a great time.  So I figure I would finish the master part and submit to the USCG NMC for my ticket.

I started with a 50 ton inland ticket, after about 1 year I was able to upgrade to my 100 ton inland ticket.

On my renew I was able to upgrade to my 200 ton inland, with 100 ton near coastal.

I also keep my sailing endorsement, assisted towing, wiper, and stew on my ticket.

Also pursued my STCW and my Advanced Fire Fighting at MERTS in Astoria, OR.

Did an online class and received my Marine Radio Operator Permit.

Currently pursuing my 500 ton near coastal ticket, I have been approved by the USCG and just need to take the test.

I should also mention that I have a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University.  I also pursued a Masters of Science in Technology Management at Portland State University, but never finished the capstone project, so never got that degree.

Some other worth while mentions are ASA and US sailing instruction, as well as nauticed.org which I am currently a full fledged instructor with.

Also did the full RYA yacht master offshore courses online, and just need to do the practical test.  Although I am quite committed in getting my 500 ton right now.
